Translations

(Etheridge) For I say to you, that unless your righteousness shall abound more than that of the scribes ^{[Sophree. This order of public teachers (the preaching and writing clergy of the Jews) does not seem sufficiently indicated by the word " scribes " in the English version. Luther well renders the corresponding Greek term by Schriftgelehrten.]} and the Pharishee, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

(Murdock) For I say to you, that unless your righteousness shall abound more than that of the Scribes and Pharisees, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

(Lamsa) For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven.

(KJV) For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
